The Italian Labour Force Survey is one of the major surveys carried out on national territory on the evolution of the Italian labour market. The survey - in addition to detecting the number of employed and unemployed persons, and their distribution in different productive sectors - also collects information on the general working conditions (nature of contracts, skill levels, safety conditions, etc ...).
The official evaluations of the main aggregates of the job offer are produced and disseminated monthly at the national level and on a quarterly basis at the regional level; every year official evaluations for all provinces are also available. The Labor Force Survey, conducted continuously since 1959, was extensively reorganized since 2004 in terms of contents, definitions, technical and organizational issues. In particular, until 2004 the survey was carried out only in a specific week for each quarter of the year. After, as established by Regulation no. 577/98 of the Council of the European Union, the collection of data is made in all weeks of the year instead, and it is harmonized at European level with regard to the contents, definitions and main methodological aspects.
UniData is also responsible, for the University of Milano-Bicocca's users only, for the access to the data from the European Union Labour Force Survey (EU-LFS), conducted by Eurostat, which gather all labour force surveys from the European Union member states. The Labour Force Surveys are conducted by the national statistical institutes across Europe and are centrally processed by Eurostat using the same concepts and definitions, following International Labour Organisation guidelines, using common classifications (NACE, ISCO, ISCED, NUTS), recording the same set of characteristics in each country. For more information about the data access please consult the Services for Eurostat Data page.
